This policy explains what information Clean Water Ladies collects when you visit cleanwaterladies.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We’ve written it in plain language, and we’ve kept it honest — it describes what this site actually does today, not a generic template of things it doesn’t.
The short version: we collect very little. We don’t sell your personal information. If you never sign up for our email list, the only data involved is the ordinary, mostly anonymous analytics every website runs.
Who we are
Clean Water Ladies is an education-first water-safety and filtration website. It is part of the parent brand The DIY Ladies. If you have any question about this policy or your information, you can reach us at jane@cleanwaterladies.com.
What we collect
There are two kinds of information involved: what you actively give us, and what is collected automatically as you browse.
Information you give us
- Your email address — only if you choose to sign up for our newsletter. Signup uses double opt-in, meaning you’ll receive a confirmation email and are only added to the list after you click to confirm. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
- Anything you send us directly — if you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and we keep it only as long as needed to respond and follow up.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and analytics data — pages you view, how you arrived, roughly how long you stay, clicks on outbound links, your general region, and your device and browser type. This is gathered through Google Analytics 4 and is used in aggregate to understand what content is useful.
- Server and security logs — like almost all websites, our host and security software record technical data such as IP addresses and request timestamps to keep the site running and to block malicious traffic.
Google Analytics 4 uses your IP address to estimate your general location and then discards it — GA4 does not store IP addresses. Our hosting and security systems do log IP addresses, but only for site operation and security, not for advertising or profiling.
How we use it
We use the information above to send our newsletter to people who asked for it, to respond when you contact us, to understand which articles and tools are actually helping so we can improve them, and to keep the site secure and working. We do not use it to build advertising profiles, and we do not run third-party ad networks on this site.
Cookies and tracking
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This site uses two kinds:
- Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics 4 to measure site usage as described above.
- Affiliate referral cookies — if you click certain outbound links to our testing partners, the partner’s network may set a cookie so it can credit us for the referral. See the next section.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics specifically using Google’s browser opt-out add-on. Blocking cookies won’t break the site’s content.
Affiliate links and how we make money
Being transparent about our commercial incentives is a core principle of this site, so here it is plainly.
Some outbound links — mainly to water-testing labs such as Tap Score (SimpleLab) and ETR Laboratories — are affiliate links. If you click one and later purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. These relationships run through affiliate networks (AWIN and ScaleSell), which use referral cookies to attribute the sale.
Affiliate relationships never change what we recommend. We test our advice against the water problem you actually have, and we will tell you when the honest answer is that you don’t need to buy anything. A commission is never a reason we suggest a product or a lab.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for anyone else’s advertising. We do rely on a small number of trusted service providers to run the site, and your information passes through them only for that purpose:
- Our email provider (Kit) — stores newsletter subscriber emails and delivers our emails.
- Google Analytics — processes the usage data described above.
- Our web host and security provider — operate the site and protect it from attacks.
- Affiliate networks — receive referral information only when you click an affiliate link.
Each of these providers has its own privacy practices. We may also disclose information if required by law.
How long we keep it
We keep newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to help you. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings, in aggregate form.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe anytime using the link in any newsletter email.
- Request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you by emailing jane@cleanwaterladies.com.
- Opt out of analytics using your browser settings or Google’s opt-out add-on.
Depending on where you live — for example California or the European Union / United Kingdom — you may have additional rights over your personal data, including the right to access or delete it and to know that we don’t sell it. To exercise any of these, just contact us.
Children’s privacy
This site is intended for adults making decisions about their household water. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Links to other sites
Our articles link to outside resources — government agencies, labs, standards bodies, and vendors. Once you leave cleanwaterladies.com, this policy no longer applies, and we’re not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites. We encourage you to read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy as the site grows — for example, when direct purchasing becomes available. When we make a meaningful change, we’ll revise the effective date at the top of this page.
