The Filtration Spectrum
Every contaminant has a size, and size is what decides which filter can catch it. The spectrum plots every common threat on one scale — from grit you can see down to dissolved ions — and shows which technology catches each one and which lets it slip straight through. It’s the whole idea of filtration in a single picture, and the antidote to buying a filter that does nothing for your actual problem. The Color & Smell Field Guide
The spectrum maps the threats you can’t detect. The field guide reads the ones you can — a rusty stain, a rotten-egg smell, a blue-green ring, water that turns your coffee strange. Each cue leads with the cheap test that confirms it, and most of them turn out to be a nuisance rather than a danger. Loud is usually harmless; the things that can actually hurt you are the ones with no color, taste, or smell at all.
Read Your Water Report
Already have results — a lab panel, or your city’s Consumer Confidence Report? This walks them line by line: what each contaminant is, the health or aesthetic limit it’s measured against, and whether your number is something to act on, keep an eye on, or set aside. There’s no filter waiting to be sold to you at the end — just a straight read of what you’re actually dealing with.
What Does My Water Need?
If you’d rather not start from a chart, start here. Tell the configurator where your water comes from and what you’ve noticed — or what a test turned up — and it hands back what’s likely going on, what genuinely removes it, and which certifications to insist on. It outputs criteria, never a shopping cart, and it’s perfectly willing to tell you the answer is “nothing but a test.”
