It’s a bacterium from the air, not something in your water
That pink film is Serratia marcescens — a common bacterium found essentially everywhere: soil, dust, surfaces, all over the world. Why people blame the water (and it’s an honest mistake)
Two reasons this gets mistaken for a water problem, both understandable:
- It’s often confused with iron. Iron in water leaves reddish and pink-ish stains too, so people reasonably assume the pink film is an iron problem — which is a water issue with a real treatment. But iron stains are hard mineral deposits, not a living slime you can wipe off. If it’s soft, slimy, and grows back in the damp spots, it’s Serratia, not iron.
